Where should the new access road, bus routes & cycle tracks go?
For York Central to go ahead the Council need to build a new road so that vehicles can get in. Last year the Council announced their preferred option was for a new road to be built off Holgate Road – not far from The Fox. This is the cheapest option, but would mean the loss of a small community park and lots more traffic going through an area where pollution already breaks health-based standards. At a recent Council scrutiny meeting it was said that some parts of our community are going to be unhappy wherever the new road goes. There is a road option that would seem to have a lot less impact on residents, but it’s been ruled out in the past for being too expensive. The Council are meant to be running a new consultation on the road options this summer.
